Mission Statement
The mission of the Fort Worth Audubon Society is to promote awareness, appreciation and understanding of birds and other wildlife while preserving and protecting their natural habitats.

MONTHLY MEETINGS
The Fort Worth Audubon Society meets the second Thursday of each month (except summer months) at 7:30 p.m. Meetings are now held in Research and Education (RES) Bldg, Everett Hall, Room 100, at the University of North Texas Health Science Center (formerly Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine) at 3500 Camp Bowie Boulevard at Montgomery.

MONTHLY NEWSLETTERS
The Southwest Flyer our monthly newsletter is available for download each month.

FIELD TRIPS
Fort Worth Audubon Society Field Trips are open to all, members and nonmembers, beginners to world-class birders. We especially want to encourage and welcome first time birders to come on our local trips in the Fort Worth area. These trips are an excellent way to get started learning the birds and the best locations and seasons to find them. There are always people on these trips who are willing and able to answer any question about birds.

Birding at the Beds Wednesday March 10th
Mar 05, 2010 - 11:29 PM - by Mary Lee
Mary Lee's Avatar Please join Martin for Birding at the Beds this Wednesday, March 10th.

Where: Meet in the parking lot of the Dunlop Sports Center on the south side of Green Oaks Blvd. between Davis Dr. and Fielder Rd. in Arlington, across from the entrance to Village Creek Drying Beds.

When: The 2nd Wednesday of each month September through April, 8:30 AM - 10:00 AM

Leader: Martin Mattingly

Description: After meeting in the Dunlop Sports Center parking lot** we will carpool over to the drying beds. This field trip will be great for beginning birders and to observe and document what birds are visiting the beds during each season. Birding will be done by automobile and with some easy walking. Binoculars will be available if needed. Please be prepared for the current weather conditions. Please note that after heavy rains the drying beds are not open to vehicles due to... [Read More]

Saturday March 13 Linkcrest Natural Area
Mar 05, 2010 - 11:23 PM - by Mary Lee
Mary Lee's Avatar Hi Everyone -

Please join Ed Lane for a field trip to the Linkcrest Natural area (formerly Linkcrest Landfill).

Where: Linkcrest Natural Area far west Fort Worth

When: Saturday, March 13. Meet at 7:30 AM.

Leader: Ed Lane

Discription: This will be a 1/2 day field trip since the gates close at noon. Driving around the lake would require a 4 wheel drive vehicle so we won't attempt that. Walking around the lake would be about a 2 mile hike. It is fairly level terrain so it is easy walking. If someone doesn't want to make the walk there is still a lot to see. Phil Craighead and Ed Lane saw 52 species there on Wednesday. It is possible to see wintering water fowl and sparrows and perhaps some early spring migrants.

Directions: We will meet at the Majestic liquor store parking lot on the SW corner of Linkcrest and I-20 at 7:30 AM. To get there from Fort... [Read More]

Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water and snacks.

If you have any questions my cell number is 817-308-1718

See you there.

Spring Migration Field Trips
Feb 16, 2010 - 10:44 AM - by Mary Lee
Mary Lee's Avatar Our field trip to the Panhandle for Lesser Prairie Chickens, scheduled for April 9 - 11, has been cancelled.

An alternative trip is being planned to attend the Texas Ornithological Society (TOS) Spring meeting in Rockport, April 15 - 18. If you're interested in attending with FWAS I will help to arrange lodging and carpooling. Please let me know if you'd like to join us.

Spring migration in Rockport will certainly be amazing!
