SUMMARY:December 2025 General Meeting: The Nature of Arctic Birds presented by Jean Iron
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday\, December 11th for our last General Meeting of 2025. \n We will also be hosting a Special Activity tonight! Joy Havner suggested a Bird Shirt Showdown. Wear your best (G-rated please) bird shirt\, Christmas themed if you have it. We want to see those shirts from those joining us virtually as well. \nThe program is The Nature of Arctic Birds\, presented by Jean Iron. Arctic birds have a special attraction for birders and many are amongst our most sought-after species. In this presentation\, Jean will take us north to the Arctic to look at birds whose exceptional endurance and lifestyle are determined by the relentless forces of nature. Physical adaptations of Arctic birds\, their colour schemes\, short breeding season\, populations\, and impressive migrations\, including the swimming migration of Thick-billed Murres\, are characteristics that Jean will highlight with photos. \nThis will be both a live in-person meeting with our speaker joinng us on Zoom.  \nJean is a well-known Ontario birder. She was president of the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) for nine years and editor of its newsletter for 14. In 2016\, she received the OFO Distinguished Ornithologist Award.

SUMMARY:67th Annual Fort Worth Christmas Bird Count
DESCRIPTION:Come out and join one of 18 teams that conduct the annual Fort Worth Christmas Bird Count (CBC.) This is the 126th Annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count\, and the 67th time FWAS participated. Contact Michael Perez\, Count Leader\, and he will help you join one of the teams. \nA CBC may sound daunting to the inexperienced birder\, but it is actually a great way to improve birding skills and learn from the more experienced birders in our chapter. EXTRA EYES are the most helpful tool when participating in a bird count. Not knowledge of bird species. \nThe Fort Worth CBC is a count circle centered NW of downtown Fort Worth in White Settlement (near the intersection of Clifford St. And Comal Ave.) The resulting 15-mile diameter circle allows teams to look for birds on the south shore of Eagle Mountain Lake\, the north shore of Lake Benbrook\, the grassland prairie on ranches near the Parker county line\, and the many city parks in downtown Fort Worth. There are 18 tems in all.

This is the 126th Annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count\, and the 26th time FWAS participated at VCDB. Contact avianadmin@fwas.org\, and we will connect you with the Count Leader Gabriele Saleh. She will help you join one of the teams. \nA CBC may sound daunting to the inexperienced birder\, but it is actually a great way to improve birding skills and learn from the more experienced birders in our chapter. EXTRA EYES are the most helpful tool when participating in a bird count. Not knowledge of bird species. \nThe Village Creek Drying Beds CBC is a count circle centered at the drying beds on Green Oaks Blvd. in north Arlington. The resulting 15-mile diameter circle allows teams to look for birds on the south end of DFW airport\, the Colleyville Nature Center\, the many city parks in H-E-B\, and the many city parks in Arlington including Lake Arlington\, Village Breek Natural Area\, and habitat along the West Fork Trinity River over to Irving/Grand Prairie. There are only 7 to 8 teams tems in all. But we would love to add more to cover additional parks in this urban environment.
