SUMMARY:April General Meeting: Homegrown National Park\, presented by Dr. Doug Tallamy
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday\, April 9\, 2026\, for our General Meeting. Tonight’s program will be Homegrown National Park presented by Dr. Doug Tallamy. Attendees will learn why and how to motivate millions of people to restore biodiversity on their property by planting natives\, removing invasives\, and encouraging a culture sympathetic to the needs of conservation. \nDoug Tallamy is the T. A. Baker Professor of Agriculture in the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware\, where he has authored 115 research publications and has taught insect related courses for 45 years. Chief among his research goals is to better understand the many ways insects interact with plants and how such interactions determine the diversity of animal communities. His books include Bringing Nature Home\, The Living Landscape\, co-authored with Rick Darke\, Nature’s Best Hope\, a New York Times Best Seller\, The Nature of Oaks\, winner of the American Horticultural Society’s 2022 book award\, and his latest book How Can I Help. In 2021 he cofounded Homegrown National Park with Michelle Alfandari (HomegrownNationalPark.org). His awards include recognition from The Garden Writer’s Association\, Audubon\, The National Wildlife Federation\, Allegheny College\, Ecoforesters\, The Garden Club of America\, The Herb Society\, and The American Horticultural Association. \nThis will be both a live in-person meeting and streamed on Zoom.  Click here for the on-line Zoom link.

SUMMARY:March General Meeting: Secret Life of Whimbrels\, presented by Sam Wolfe
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday\, March 13\, 2026\, for our General Meeting. Tonight’s program will be The Secret Life of Whimbrels\, presented by Sam Wolfe\, a shorebird biologist with Manomet Conservation Sciences. In this presentation\, we will learn about the spectacular migration of Whimbrels. We will have the opportunity to see the little-known & remote places Whimbrels venture throughout the year\, including a stopover site in Texas that supports more than 25% of the population. \nSam has a master’s degree in range and wildlife management from Texas A&M University—Kingsville\, and lives in Rockport\, Texas. Her career has focused on understanding bird migration and habitat associations\, having worked across a variety of landscapes and geographies. \nThis will be both a live in-person meeting and streamed on Zoom. Sam hopes to be at the meeting\, but may need to join us on Zoom as well.  Click here for the on-line Zoom link. \nPlease remember to give yourself extra time to arrive as the (now 12 month!!!) road construction project might still have the entrance to the parking lot from Camp Bowie Blvd. closed. Montgomery Street is also under construction. Since I drive from downtown Ft Worth\, I take West 7th Street to get to Clifton Street and the parking lot.

SUMMARY:February 2026 General Meeting: Feather Trails: A Journey of Discovery Among Endangered Birds with Sophie A. H. Osborn
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday\, February 12\, 2026 for our General Meeting. Tonight’s program will be Feather Trails: A journey of discovery among endangered birds\, with Sophie A. H. Osborn\, an award-winning environmental writer and wildlife biologist whose work has included the study and conservation of more than a dozen bird species in the Americas.  \nSophie will discuss how birds are visible\, vocal sentinels that alert us to environmental harms through their declining numbers or their failure to thrive. In her new book Feather Trails—A Journey of Discovery Among Endangered Birds\, she shares her personal experiences reintroducing endangered Peregrine Falcons\, Hawaiian Crows\, and California Condors to the wild. While immersing readers in the triumphs and tribulations of being a wildlife biologist\, Sophie explores the threats that imperiled these birds\, and reveals that what harmed them threatens us\, too. She will discuss what led to the endangerment of these three captivating species\, recount the efforts of biologists to recover their populations\, and read a few excerpts from her book that describe what it was like to work with these magnificent birds. \nThis will be both a live in-person meeting and streamed on Zoom. Click here for the on-line Zoom link. \nPlease remember to give yourself extra time to arrive as the road construction might still have the entrance to the parking lot from Camp Bowie Blvd. closed. Montgomery Street is also under construction. Since I drive from downtown Ft Worth\, I take West 7th Street to get to Clifton Street and the parking lot.
