Fort Worth Christmas Bird Count / part of Nat’l Audubon’s 125th Annual Count
December 14 @ 6:30 am - 6:00 pm
Come join our team as we take part in the National Audubon’s 125th Annual Christmas Bird Count (CBC). This is the nation’s Longest running community science bird project. The CBC occurs from December 14th thru January 5 every season. The national CBC began in 1900. 25 bird count circles were created that year, and 27 birders took part. Participation in 2023 has expanded to 2,625 circles and over 67 thousand counters. Read more about the history of the CBC here.
The Ft. Worth CBC has been held annually on the 2nd Saturday of December beginning in 1957. We need volunteers to join one of the 17 teams. The count circle includes 17 areas within a 15-mile diameter circle centered in White Settlement. Areas include the Nature Center, Old State Fish Hatchery, Camp Carter YMCA, Lake Worth, and city parks and properties in central and south Fort Worth. Beginner birders are welcome. The count is a great way to improve your birding skills!!!
