2024 Ft Worth Audubon Annual Scavenger Hunt
July 13 @ 5:30 am - 12:00 pm
The FWAS Scavenger Hunt is back on for this year! The hunt will be on Saturday, July 13.
This event is organized by Paula Channell. If you wish to participate, meet Paula in the Lone Star Cafe parking lot at 5:45 a.m. The cafe is located at 1001 NE Green Oaks Blvd, Arlington, 76006. (just north of Green Oaks Blvd on HWY 157 / behind the 7-Eleven)
If you would like to participate, call or text Paula Channell at 817-405-8132. (Paula says that texting her is best.)
Let Paula know: if you already have your own team; the team members; and the team name.
If you don’t have a team Paula will put you on one. All levels of birding experience are welcome.
Scavenger Hunt scoring is based on the abundance of a species as stated in the “Bar Graph Checklist of the Birds of Tarrant County, TX”. Here is the link to download the bird list (PDF) that you’ll need to familiarize yourself with: https://fwas.org/wp-content/uploads/docs-news-for-birders/scavenger-hunt-list.pdf
Birding is only allowed within the borders of Tarrant County. Check the FWAS homepage for Tarrant Co. Local Hot Spots. Choose your sites and plan your route
Keep track of your sightings on your bird list. Stop birding at noon and meet back at the cafe’s parking lot.
This is a fun event done in July, the least birded month according to National Audubon, to help them see what’s out there this time of the year. Citizen Science at it’s finest!
Things to bring: WATER, bug spray, snacks, your list, binoculars, sun screen, hat/ visor, good walking / hiking shoes and some crazy determination!
