2025 Great Backyard Bird Count / Join the world in connecting to birds.
February 15
Each February, for four days, the world comes together for the love of birds. Launched in 1998 by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon Society, the GBBC was the 1st online community science project. During the 4 day weekend, they invite people to spend time in their favorite places watching and counting as many birds as they can find and reporting them on the GBBC website. How to participate: Step 1. Decide where you will watch birds; Step 2. Watch birds for 15 minutes or more at least once over the 4 days; Step 3. Report your observations on your favorite app (Merlin or eBird.) If you already use these apps, keep using them as anything reported during the 4 days will count towards the GBBC.
